Toronto & the Greater Toronto Area

Most driveways fail from the bottom up.

Anyone can lay a smooth top coat. What decides whether your driveway survives ten Toronto winters is the base underneath it — and that's the part you never get to see. So we put ours in writing, on every quote.

How we build

The spec sheet you should be asking every contractor for.

If a quote doesn't state base depth, lift thickness and compaction, it isn't a quote — it's a number. Here's what goes on ours, and why each line is there.

01

Excavation

250–300mm

Down to stable subgrade. Clay-heavy soil across the GTA holds water, and shallow digs are the most common cause of heaving.

02

Geotextile

Fullarea

Non-woven membrane separating base from subgrade, so the two never mix and the base stays where you paid for it.

03

Granular base

150mm

Two 75 mm lifts, minimum four plate passes each. Hand tamping is not compaction.

04

Asphalt

50+40mm

Base course then surface course. One thick pour cools unevenly and cracks along the seam.

05

Joints

Polymericsand

Regular sand washes out in one freeze-thaw season, then the pavers begin to move.

06

Edge restraint

Everyperimeter

Concrete haunch or heavy-duty edging — the only thing stopping interlock spreading outward.

07

Grading

2%min. fall

Water has to leave the surface and reach a legal outlet. Standing water ends every driveway early.

Pricing

Real ranges, published. Not "call for pricing".

These are the ranges we actually quote across the GTA in 2026. Your number depends on square footage, access, disposal and how much of the old surface has to come out — we confirm all of it on site.

WorkPer sq ftTypical project
Sealing, crack filling, patchingLevel 1 — maintenance $1.50 – $3 $450 – $1,400Extends the life of a driveway that's still structurally sound
Residential asphalt drivewayResurfacing or full rebuild $4 – $7 $2,400 – $4,600Two-car driveway, 500–650 sq ft — resurfacing at the lower end, full rebuild at the upper
Interlock driveway $16 – $25 $8,500 – $17,500Standard concrete pavers; natural stone and inlays sit higher
Interlock patio or walkway $15 – $23 $4,500 – $10,000Steps, seating walls and lighting quoted separately
Permeable interlock $21 – $30 Rebate-eligibleRequired by City of Toronto for many new or expanded driveways
Commercial lot paving Quoted Site visit requiredMilling, overlay, catch basins and curbing priced by scope

Ranges are for planning, not a quote. Removal of concrete, restricted access, soil disposal and drainage work move the number — we walk you through every one of them before you sign anything. Get your exact number →

The process

Five steps, in this order, every time.

On-site measurement

We measure, check drainage fall, probe what's under the existing surface and confirm whether your project needs a permit. No estimate over the phone.

Written quote with specs

Within 48 hours: square footage, base depth, lift thickness, disposal, and a fixed price. One page, no asterisks.

Permits and scheduling

If the City needs to approve a new driveway, widening or curb cut, we prepare and file it. You get a start window, not a vague "sometime in spring".

Build

Excavation, geotextile, base in compacted lifts, then surface. Most residential driveways finish in one to three days; interlock takes five to eight.

Walkthrough and handover

We walk the finished job with you, hand over the base photos taken during construction, and give you care instructions for the first season.

Service areas

Where we work across the GTA.

Different municipalities, different rules. Driveway width limits, permeable requirements and permit timelines change the moment you cross a boundary — pick your city for local details.

What we commit to

Four promises, in writing, before you pay anything.

We're a young company. We can't point at thirty years of driveways yet, so we do the thing thirty-year companies don't bother with: we put the whole job on paper before we start.

Fixed price, no change orders. The number on your quote is the number you pay. If we hit something underground we didn't expect, we show you and you decide — we don't invoice surprises.

Specs on paper. Excavation depth, base thickness, compaction passes and asphalt lifts, written per project. If we don't hit them, you don't pay for that stage.

An honest no. If your driveway only needs sealing, we'll quote sealing. Selling you a rebuild you don't need is how contractors get one job and no referrals.

Photos of the base. You get pictures of the excavation, the geotextile and the compacted base before anything covers them — because that's the part you can never inspect again.

Questions

The ones homeowners actually ask us.

How much does a driveway cost in Toronto?

An asphalt driveway rebuild runs roughly $8 to $14 per square foot installed, which puts a typical two-car driveway between $4,500 and $9,500. Interlock is $16 to $25 per square foot, so the same driveway lands between $8,500 and $17,500. Tear-out of old concrete, restricted access and soil disposal are the three things that most often move the number.

Do I need a permit to redo my driveway?

Replacing an existing driveway in the same footprint generally does not require a permit. Building a new driveway, widening one, or cutting a new curb does — and the City of Toronto requires stormwater retention for new hard surfaces above 50 square metres, which usually means permeable pavers. We confirm which category your property falls into during the site visit and file the paperwork if it's needed.

Asphalt or interlock — which is better for Toronto winters?

Both survive freeze-thaw if the base is right. Asphalt costs less up front, goes in faster and is easier to repair. Interlock costs two to three times more, lasts longer, and individual pavers can be lifted and reset instead of patched. If budget is the deciding factor, asphalt on a proper base beats interlock on a bad one every time.

When can you start, and how long does it take?

Paving season in the GTA runs roughly April through November. Most residential asphalt driveways take one to three days on site; interlock takes five to eight. We give you a start window when you approve the quote, and we tell you if weather moves it — you won't have to chase us.

Why is your quote higher than the crew that knocked on my door?

Usually because ours includes excavation depth, a geotextile membrane, 150 mm of compacted granular base and two lifts of asphalt, and theirs doesn't say. Ask any cheaper quote to write down those four numbers. If they will, compare fairly. If they won't, you now know why it's cheaper.

You're a new company — why should I hire you?

Fair question. We can't show you thirty years of driveways, so we compete on the part that's usually hidden. Our quotes state excavation depth, base thickness, compaction and asphalt lifts, and we photograph the base before it gets covered so you can see exactly what you paid for. Ask an established contractor for the same and see what you get back. Judge us on the specification, not the founding date.
